Once again I had a chance to attend Motionographer's F5 Fest in NYC on April 17-18. This time around it was held at Terminal 5. Antfood, Block & Tackle, Patrick Clair of Antibody and Gmunk stood out as my favorites. There was also an interactive narrative on an Oculus Rift (by Buck and Antfood) that was one of my personal faves and has inspired me to continue with the personal work in my spare time.
New Work: Mobiles
It's like a suspended Jamaican sound system + pulsating light show w/multiple air fresheners. There are grommets on the shapes to allow the inside to glow, smell or pulsate sound.
There is also a loopable 11min sound design that was composed. I've extracted each track and embedded into one of the three Bluetooth speakers. One track is a steel drum pattern (symbolizes the steel grommets that were used.) Second is a whimsical crystalized track (symbolizes the delicate forms of the mobiles.) Third is a bass droning track (a real thick sound that compliments the the other two tracks.)
As far as the scents; There is a pouch embedded into the lower tiers of each mobile that has citrus, sandalwood or lavender notes. Oh, and a big pile of triangle confetti made from fabric (strategically placed on the floor) that help guide your experience.
Their debut will be at The Soap Factory's "Fiction Friction" exhibit in Minneapolis, MN on Feb 7 - March 8.

Hi Chicago!
The OP-1 Has Finally Arrived
Oh happy day(s)! The OP-1 portable synthesizer by Teenage Engineering has emerged. Part synth, part drum machine, digital reel-to-reel and everything else awesome. Prepared to spend a lot more time with sound design for my motion pieces here. Have I unconsciously replaced my Casio VL-Tone?
pARTy 125 MCAD
As I stepped out in my freshest duds to attend MCAD's 125th anniversary celebration it dawned on me that the institution is as old as Coca-Cola. While my search for classmates was unsuccessful; I was able to meet plenty of faculty. Plus, DJ Spooky spun the night away with his new iPad app!
Happy F5!
